The GCC Patent Office (GCCPO) is a regional patent office based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, established under the auspices of the GCC Supreme Council during its 13th summit held in Abu Dhabi 21-22 September 1992, approving the Patent Regulations and the Statutes of the GCC Patent Office. The GCC Patent Office started accepting applications as of October 3, 1998.

A Patent granted by the GCC Patent office shall be promptly validated in the member states, namely, Saudi Arabia (SA), United Arab Emirates (AE), Kuwait (KW), Qatar (QA), Bahrain (BH) and Oman (OM), as of the grant date.


Time Frame: It may take 3-4 years for granting a patent filed with GCC patent office.
Protection period: 20 years from the filing date.
Annual fees: Due at the beginning of each calendar year after filing and payable within 3 months (1st January to 31st March).


At the Time of Filing:

1. A copy of the specification in English and Arabic in MS word format including the Abstract, claims and drawings (if any).
2. General Information Required:
    i.   Name and address of the applicant(s).
    ii.  Name and address of the inventor(s).
    iii. Details of the Priority Application(s).
          Filing date.
          Application number.
          Country of filing.

To be submitted within 90 Days of Filing:

1. A Power of Attorney executed by the applicant(s), duly notarized and legalized up to the consulate of any GCC state.
2. Deed of Assignment (if applicable) executed by the inventor(s), assigning the patent rights to the applicant, duly notarized and legalized up to the consulate of any GCC state.
3. An extract from the Commercial Register or from the Memorandum of Association, if the applicant is a company, duly legalized up to the consulate of any GCC state. For Individual applicant, passport copy of the applicant is required.
4. A certified copy of the priority document(s) along with Arabic translation of the same. If the document(s) are not in English, a simple English translation of the same is also required.
